Understanding the Premium Fully Bonded Shear Cap Isolator
The premium and fully bonded shear cap isolator is a bell-shaped anti-vibration mount, here with a square-shaped base. It is premium due to the materials used, and is manufactured by bonding the shear cap to the rubber which is often note the case. Fully bonding the product is likely to result in both improved performance, consistency and a longer life.
It is a popular option for rubber/metal anti-vibration pedestal mounts when used with compression loads.
It provides a low-profile solution for isolation problems of numerous machines with rotation speeds of over 1500 revolutions per minute (compressors, motors, fans and pumps).
The elastomeric component is partially protected by the galvanised steel shell.
This isolator offers a good balance between isolation performance, mount height, and price.
Whilst this is not a 'failsafe' shear mount, it is double bonded, so provides a high level of confidence in its structural stability. There are pro's and con's to making a mount failsafe. The main con is that failsafe mounts will normally experience compromised performance.
This mount is designed to be used when mounted to a flat horizontal surface. The load applied then acts vertically downwards towards the ground.
One notable advantage of all Shear Cap, or Bell Mounts, is that their properties tend to be more uniform with small changes in direction of load. E.g. if used on a ship, the rocking of the ship will have a reduced impact on isolation when compared to standard Pedestal mounts.
