Understanding Pads for Cablelay & Pipelay Tensioners and Pushers

Pads for Cablelay & Pipelay Tensioners and Pushers are used on caterpillar tracks when they need to grip chains, pipes or cables.  It is worth having a look at this example project AVMR worked on to see what these machines look like: Click Here.

Clamping forces are a challenge when griping plastic pipes and most data or power cables.  If the clamping forces are too high, the pipe or cable can be damaged, if the clamping forces are too low then the pads might not grip what they are carrying.

Increasing the coefficient of friction between the pad and the 'load' enables static friction to be maintained at lower clamping forces.  This in turn reduces the risk of damage to the 'load'.

When gripping pipes or cables it is typically important to use a high friction rubber as this enables lower clamping forces to be used.  AVMR are highly experienced at both design and development of rubberised trackpads for tensioners, pushers, and vehicles.  This includes custom rubber compounds.

Some customers are used to using Polyurethane pads, but these are flawed for a number of reasons, primarily related to the material's need to be much harder than a rubber.  If you have questions on this, please drop us a line

The shape of the pad and any structural support are as important as the material selection.  Finally, there is the fixing method of the pads to the chain.

150° Degree Track Pad

This 150° Rubber Track Pad is designed to provide high friction through the materials that it uses.  A range of options are available with this pad, so it requires a consultation for sale.

AVMR have been manufacturing custom versions this type of high friction track pad for decades, and are now pleased to offer some of our own products.  This product has been based on decades of learning.
